Wild flowers, great surprises!

Bert

Spring Beauties growing in a shady garden.

This tiny native wild flower is found east of the Mississippi River. Claytonia virginiana. I was able to purchase it from a native plant nursery. It grows from tiny tubers (potato-like roots) and will colonize to form large masses, It is especially stunning in a large group. I am hoping this one will spread. It will disappear in the summer but returns every spring.
